  • Critical PHP Security Vulnerabilities: How TBK Consulting and Kaseya Are Working to Protect Our Clients

October 28, 2026 | Cybersecurity News & Updates

When critical cybersecurity threats emerge, having the right technology partners and a proactive IT team can make all the difference.

A Major Cybersecurity Threat Emerges

On October 20, 2026, the cybersecurity community was alerted to two critical vulnerabilities affecting PHP, one of the world’s most widely used web programming languages.

The vulnerabilities, identified as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, are collectively known as PHP2Shell. Both received a critical severity rating of 9.2 out of 10.

PHP powers millions of websites, business applications, and online services worldwide, including popular content management platforms such as WordPress.

These vulnerabilities are particularly concerning because they could allow cybercriminals to execute malicious code on vulnerable web servers without first authenticating.

Successful exploitation could potentially lead to:

  • Unauthorized access to business systems and sensitive information.
  • Theft of passwords, authentication credentials, and other confidential data.
  • Installation of malware or ransomware.
  • Disruption of business operations and online services.
  • Further compromise of connected systems and networks.

Given the widespread use of PHP, the vulnerabilities prompted urgent security advisories from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the FBI, and cybersecurity researchers worldwide.

Kaseya Takes Action to Protect Its Technology Platforms

At TBK Consulting Inc., we rely on trusted technology partners to help deliver reliable, secure, and professionally managed IT services to our clients.

One of those partners is Kaseya, whose portfolio includes Datto RMM, Autotask PSA, Datto backup and cybersecurity solutions, IT Glue, and other technologies used by managed service providers.

Following the disclosure of PHP2Shell, Kaseya’s security team conducted a comprehensive assessment of its product portfolio to identify potential exposure and determine the appropriate response.

On October 23, Kaseya publicly shared an update outlining its findings and remediation efforts.

Among the reported results:

  • Datto RMM — Fully Patched: Security updates implemented to address the identified vulnerabilities.
  • Autotask PSA — Fully Patched: Remediation completed for the affected platform.
  • Datto Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) — Unaffected: No impact identified from these vulnerabilities.
  • IT Glue — Unaffected: The documentation platform was identified as unaffected.
  • Datto Backup and Disaster Recovery — Compensating Controls: Additional security protections implemented while remediation activities continue.
  • RocketCyber — Compensating Controls: Protective measures implemented to reduce potential exposure.

Kaseya also reported enhanced security monitoring and additional controls where appropriate across its technology portfolio.

This response illustrates why vendor security practices, transparency, and timely remediation are essential components of a strong cybersecurity strategy.

How TBK Consulting Helps Protect Our Clients

Technology vendors play an important role in addressing vulnerabilities within their products. But effective cybersecurity doesn’t stop with the vendor.

At TBK Consulting, our responsibility is to help ensure that the businesses relying on us remain informed, protected, and prepared as the threat landscape evolves.

Our managed IT and cybersecurity approach emphasizes several important areas.

1. Staying Ahead of Emerging Threats

Cybersecurity threats can emerge with little warning.

By following security advisories, monitoring vendor communications, and evaluating newly disclosed vulnerabilities, TBK can identify potential risks and determine what action may be necessary for managed client environments.

2. Working with Trusted Technology Partners

Our relationship with technology providers such as Kaseya gives us access to enterprise-grade management, monitoring, backup, and cybersecurity technologies.

When vulnerabilities are discovered within these platforms, coordinated vendor remediation and MSP oversight help reduce exposure and support business continuity.

3. Proactive Patch Management

Unpatched software remains one of the most common entry points for cyberattacks.

TBK’s managed IT services include patch management and system maintenance designed to help keep supported operating systems and applications current.

For vulnerabilities such as PHP2Shell, this also means recognizing that web servers, hosted applications, and software components may require updates beyond traditional workstation and server patching.

4. Layered Cybersecurity Protection

No single security product can prevent every cyberattack.

That’s why TBK emphasizes multiple layers of protection, including endpoint security, threat detection, secure configurations, network protections, backup and disaster recovery, and ongoing security awareness.

These layers help reduce the likelihood of a successful attack and improve an organization’s ability to respond and recover.

5. Business Continuity and Cyber Resilience

Even organizations with strong cybersecurity practices must prepare for the possibility of an incident.

Reliable backups, disaster recovery planning, and established incident response procedures help businesses minimize disruption and restore operations when unexpected events occur.

Cybersecurity isn’t just about preventing attacks. It’s about keeping your business running.

What Should Business Owners Do?

The PHP2Shell vulnerabilities are an important reminder that cybersecurity is an ongoing responsibility.

Businesses should ensure that their IT providers are evaluating potentially affected systems, applying available security updates, and monitoring for suspicious activity.

Organizations operating PHP-based websites or applications should verify that their hosting providers and application vendors have addressed the vulnerabilities.

For companies relying on managed IT services, this is also an opportunity to ask an important question:

Is your IT provider simply reacting to problems, or actively working to identify and reduce risks before they affect your business?

The TBK Commitment: Beyond IT. Beyond Limits.

At TBK Consulting Inc., we believe our clients deserve more than someone to call when something breaks.

They deserve a technology partner who understands that their systems, information, and business operations are critical to their success.

The recent PHP vulnerabilities demonstrate how quickly the cybersecurity landscape can change—and why collaboration between technology vendors and managed service providers matters.

Through our partnership with Kaseya and our commitment to proactive IT management, cybersecurity, and cyber resilience, TBK works to help businesses navigate emerging threats with greater confidence.

While no technology provider can guarantee complete protection against every threat, a proactive, layered approach can significantly reduce risk.

Your business deserves technology that works for you—and a team committed to helping protect it.
